About the Event
Managing emotions can be overwhelming: our reactions in stressful situations can be instantaneous and undesirable, causing harm to others and ourselves. We need to build our emotional intelligence to as a first step in our anti-racism journey.
This 1.5 hour on-line workshop provides support for dads who want to better engage with their child(ren), build their own emotional resilience to manage challenges in life, and get themselves ready for anti-racism learning. During this workshop we’ll focus on how to better engage with our child(ren)’s emotions to support their emotional health, and how to apply an emotional intelligence model and specific strategies to help us become Super Dads of emotional health! Building strong, emotionally healthy relationships IS anti-racism work!

Hi there! I am an uninvited settler currently living on the territories of the Esquimalt and Songhees nations with my spouse and two boys (ages 10 and seven). We moved here four years ago from Toronto and are grateful to all the Indigenous nations who have cared for the lands so that we are able to enjoy nature as it is and as it should be.
I’m a second generation Chinese Canadian who grew up in Montréal’s Chinatown where my great-grandfather was among the first Chinese to immigrate in the late 1800s. My parents both have ancestral roots to Guangdong province in China. It’s important to remember my family roots and recognize the many relations that have gone before me with resilience and purpose to help me enjoy the life I have now.
I am also an educational psychologist, emotional intelligence coach, and most importantly, a dad. In my day job, I facilitate workshops on resilience, psychological safety, and positive psychology. As a certified emotional intelligence coach, I’m keen on helping people unravel the mysteries of our emotions. As a dad, I’m keen on offering support to dads in different ways. I deliver the “Super Dads Super Kids” program that focuses topics like: relating better to and connecting with our child(ren); committing more quality time with our child(ren); and teaching our child(ren) about important topics like emotions, health, and communication.
Recently, my boys and I started a weekly meetup of a “Kids and Dads LEGO Club” to provide a space for male caregivers and their child(ren) to play together and meet others.
