The NeuroEquity Project

The NeuroEquity Project

Expanding access. Restoring dignity. Transforming futures.

Every mind deserves to be seen. Every story deserves care.

For too long, racialized and neurodivergent people have been left behind by systems meant to support them. Long waitlists, unaffordable assessments, misdiagnosis, medical racism, and culturally unsafe care have created a crisis—one that leaves thousands suffering in silence.

The NeuroEquity Project is changing that.
Launched by Moms Against Racism Canada (MAR) in partnership with InFocus Counselling Clinic, leading clinicians and community advocates, this initiative expands access to culturally grounded, compassionate, and trauma-informed ADHD and Autism assessments, counselling, peer support, and community education.

We are building a future where Black, Indigenous, and racialized neurodivergent people receive the neuro-affirming care they deserve, without shame, stigma, or barriers.

Why NeuroEquity Matters

The health equity challenge is urgent.

Racialized and neurodivergent adults and youth – especially in Indigenous, rural, and newcomer communities – face systemic barriers at every step:

  • Assessment delays that leave needs unmet for years
  • Misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis, particularly for BIPOC children
  • Biases that misread neurodivergence as defiance or bad parenting
  • Unaffordable care, leaving families to navigate alone
  • A lack of culturally affirming practitioners

These barriers cause stress and shape life outcomes: school discipline, employment prospects, mental health, and family wellbeing.

This is a systemic health equity challenge and we are meeting it with action.

  • 50+ people have received Autism assessments (since adding the service in September)
  • 967+ people are on the waitlist
  • 6,169+ counselling appointments completed by our team
  • 1,420+ appointments scheduled for the coming months
  • 3,281+ families enrolled in our Neurodivergent Support Group

Participants repeatedly tell us:
“This is the first time I felt seen.”
